Catskill Mountain Foundation, in cooperation with the Valentina Kozlova Dance Conservatory New York, presents the world’s favorite ballet–The Nutcracker—which enchants audiences young and old across the world during the holiday season.  The ballet is based on a story by German author E.T.A. Hoffmann.  In The Nutcracker, a Christmas present—a nutcracker—comes to life as a handsome prince.  He takes the young girl who receives him as a present on fantastic adventures.  There is an unforgettable battle between The Nutcracker and his Toy Soldiers and The Mouse King and his fighting mice.  Harlequin and Columbine, life-sized dolls emerge from giant presents and then dance together.  The Nutcracker Prince and the young girl Marie begin a magical journey into the snowy forest with beautiful dancing snowflakes.  Traveling in a nutshell, Marie and The Nutcracker Prince arrive in the land of sweets where the Sugar Plum Fairy dances and entertains for all.  The beloved and familiar score for this ballet masterpiece is by Pyotr IllyichTchaikovsky and the unforgettable choreography is by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov.  The long tradition of The Nutcracker will draw you into its magical realm, never to be forgotten.

In this production, the party children and parents of the first act will feature aspiring local performers selected from auditions in September giving them the inspiring opportunity to appear onstage alongside the superb award winning dancers from VKDCNY.  This is your chance to witness great performances from these young dancers before they make the leap to the professional stage!  The Catskill Mountain Foundation and Valentina Kozlova Dance Conservatory New York hope you will make The Nutcracker at the Orpheum a holiday tradition for your family.

Those interested in learning more about auditioning for Act I of The Nutcracker can call 518/263-2066 or 2033.  Professional dance experience is not required.

This performance is part of the Catskill Mountain Foundation 2015 Performing Arts Season and is made possible through private donations.
