COVID-19 TESTING INFORMATION

For immediate release:

Greene County Public Health Department (GCPHD) in partnership with the Town of Hunter’s Supervisor and staff will be conducting a COVID-19 testing site for Greene County residents on Wednesday, December 2nd from 3-5pm at the Town of Hunter government building located at 5748 Route 23A.  Testing is by appointment only with a limited number of slots available since prioritization is given to those who are symptomatic; need a test to return to work or school; nursing home visitation; or have been notified by the GCPHD as being a close contact to a confirmed positive case. Travelers or asymptomatic folks (without symptoms) will NOT be tested at this site due to laboratory policies, but GCPHD can give alternate testing site information by calling 518-719-3600.

To register:  Please call GCPHD at 518-719-3600 and a representative will take your information.  The deadline to register is Tuesday, December 1st by 3pm. You must be registered to attend this testing site.

On the day of testing, you must bring a photo ID indicating your permanent Greene County address. You will be directed to stay in your vehicle and follow traffic flow thru the test site, and if asymptomatic, when to leave your vehicle to walk into the building for testing.  Symptomatic individuals will remain in their vehicle at all times and will be directed where to go. Security will be on-site to assist with traffic flow and to assure the safety of all vehicles, individuals and staff.  After leaving the testing site, residents with symptoms should drive directly home for self-quarantine until the results are shared with them.  It may take a few days to receive the test results, but once obtained from the lab, a GCPHD staff member will call the residents with their results. For those with positive results, further instructions on Isolation measures will be given.

Kaaterskill Clove Parking Enforcement Update

To all Visitors and Residents of the Town of Hunter,

The recent issues relating to the Kaaterskill Clove demand immediate solutions as they risk the health and safety of our Town residents and visitors. At our recent public meeting we listened to many community members speak to the many negative impacts that are occurring and asking for our assistance. We also heard from several of our local first responders who are concerned that the traffic jams and parking will inhibit quick responses to emergency calls throughout the Clove which occur regularly.

After consulting with many experts and partner agencies, the Town Board of Hunter have ordered that the following actions will be taken.

• Beginning on the weekend of August 8th, The Town of Hunter will be operating a Vehicle impound Lot located at 5748, Route 23A, Tannersville NY (Town Hall).
• This impound lot will be in operation every weekend until the illegal parking is dramatically curtailed.
• Any illegally parked vehicle will be ticketed and then towed to the Town Hall Impound Lot which will be manned by a Town of Hunter Police Officer until 8pm.
• A vehicle owner will only be able to retrieve their vehicle once they have paid the Towing Fee, and the Impound Fee in full, via credit card or cash.
• Any vehicle not picked up by 8pm will incur an additional day’s fee.
• The Town has authorized the purchase of equipment to enable our Town of Hunter Police officers to associate parking violations to a vehicle registration via the DMV. Town of Hunter Police officers will soon be able to generate and print parking violations that must be answered in Town Court for the owner to renew their vehicle registration. This will replace the hand-written system currently in use.

Our intention on releasing this information at this time is so that it can be widely shared and disseminated, and so that all visitors to the Kaaterskill Clove will clearly understand the repercussions if they choose to ignore our warnings to abide by local ordinances.

The Town Board of Hunter would like to thank our partners at NYS DEC, NYS DOT, New York State Police, Greene County Sheriff’s Office and of course our own Town of Hunter Police Department for all of the extra attention and manpower that continues to be devoted to these issues.

We would also like to thank our Town Residents for their patience as we work on implementing all solutions that will be required to meet these complex challenges.

Sincerely,

The Town Board of Hunter
